“On certain occasions, she juggled; or perhaps she threw things. (…) Items included my voice, my shoe, myself.” – Jacqueline Saphra
Amidst spectres of so-called ‘hereditary burnout’, nome de solteira dissects the everyday in a reflection on unpaid labour and the assumed role of women.
Gisela Ferreira, born in Águeda, began her dance journey in 2008. In 2019, she earned a BA from Escola Superior de Dança (Lisbon), and later took part in the 2020/21 edition of the Advanced Program in Performance and Choreographic Creation (FAICC) by Companhia Instável (Porto).
As a dancer, she has worked with Liliana Garcia (Porque é Que o Céu é Azul, 2019), Lucia Nacht (Monumentos em Ação, 2019), Joana Borges (Dust, 2021), and with Backstage Company/Rosália Passinhas (A Lenda de Vela de Natal, 2022; and O Discurso de Pitágoras, 2023).
In 2020, she began developing her own creations, among which #12658 premiered as part of the “Curtas de Dança ‘20” programme (Armazém22, Vila Nova de Gaia). In 2021, she was selected for “Interferências”, a festival-residency by Companhia Olga Roriz (Lisbon), where she co-created and presented a site-specific version of Fantasmas de Prata with Mário M. Fonseca. In October 2022, she premiered CERES, co-created with Mariana Barbosa and Délia Krayenbühl; and in 2024 she collaborated with the same artists on the research project PLATAFORME, supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Since 2022, she is also a founding member of the CAMAFEU collective.
