LAB
The Choreographic Creation Laboratory is a project that aims to encourage the development of projects in the area of contemporary dance, based on an individual proposal for a creation.
Aimed at young creators, LAB is defined as a space for research and continued process. The sessions, held on a monthly basis, allow participants to be accompanied by a choreographer or trainer, in a “coaching” format, sharing methodology and artistic thinking, in an open and transversal format.
The project aims to develop the individual creation of each participant in a system of constant reflection and discussion, in a formative environment of constructive feedback and oriented towards the collaborative development of the work. In addition to crossing creators at different levels/moments of their artistic journey, LAB may, in some situations, enable the public presentation of the created pieces.

LAB AVEIRO
The Aveiro Choreographic Creation Laboratory is a project that encourages and supports the development of young creators in contemporary dance, based on an individual proposal for a creation.
The second edition, in 2022, culminated in the presentation of the pieces developed by the participants throughout the project. Caem calhaus do céu, by João Oliveira, was the work selected by the jury to later be part of the Palcos Instáveis Segunda Casa presentation cycle at Teatro Aveirense. The invited mentors for this edition included Ana Isabel Castro, Ana Figueira, Catarina Campos, Cristina Planas Leitão, Daniela Cruz, Joclécio Azevedo, and Mafalda Deville.
The third edition of LAB Aveiro took place in 2024, and the selected piece was “nome de solteira”, by Gisela Ferreira.
LAB VILA REAL
The first edition of the Vila Real Choreographic Creation Laboratory began in October 2023, with all spots filled. This project by Instável – Centro Coreográfico is aimed at dance professionals and students, fostering choreographic creation, the development of emerging creators in the region, and artistic exchange between artists. Additionally, it promotes critical reflection on creative processes.
In this edition, the selected creator was Maria João Pereira.
