Rubble King
Duarte Valadares
Palcos Instáveis Segunda Casa / Coproduction with Teatro Municipal do Porto

Rubble King introduces a short span of attention, a creature investigating archetypes. An entity in a sandbox, a place of unlimited information, an excessively productive circuit searching for archetypes to feed on. This universal body is viral, an unfiltered circuit, randomly interrupted by self-satisfaction. Glimpses of real movement structures are present, as if floating like clouds and reflecting thoughts. Change, change, change — various states through shifts in attention, dodging conclusions, a rational absurdity.

Duarte Valadares was born in Porto, and graduated from Escola Superior de Dança in 2014. He lives in Portugal, researching both contemporary and urban movement, a study he calls “Hybrid Movement.”

He has worked with choreographers such as Amélia Bentes in Eternuridade, Marco da Silva Ferreira in Land(e)scape, Hu(r)mano, Brother, and Bisonte, Drosha Gherkov in Needs, Jonas & Lander in Adorabilis, Thiery Smits/Compagnie Thor in Anima Ardens and Waw. With Companhia Instável, he has worked with renowned figures such as Gregory Maqoma in Free, Emmanuele Hyuhn in Cribles, and Mafalda Deville in Barro – Terra Molhada Onde a Bota Escorrega. Duarte choreographed Dry Mouth (2015), State of Doubt (2016), We can buy a Basquiat but we can’t hold hands (2017), and co-created Rubble King (2020) with Jonas Verwerft.
