TAKE is the title of the new creation by São Castro and António M Cabrita for Companhia Instável. As part of the New Creation 2023 project, co-produced by Teatro Municipal do Porto and Teatro Aveirense, it is a piece for five performers that starts with sound in a cinematographic context: “sound has a story in itself and the body is incessantly looking for a story”, the creators refer in their creation note.
São Castro and António M Cabrita have had an artistic collaboration since 2011. Both received the 2015 Authors Award from the Portuguese Authors Society, in the Best Choreography / Dance category with the piece “Play False” and were nominated for the same award in subsequent years. Some of their pieces are considered by the national press to be among the best pieces of the year. Between 2015 and 2017, they collaborated as performers and choreographers with the Companhia Nacional de Bailado, for which they created “Dido e Eneias”.
In 2016 both were distinguished by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon with the Silver Medal of Valor and Distinction. Between 2017 and 2021, they took over the artistic direction of Companhia Paulo Ribeiro, as the resident structure of Teatro Viriato.
In 2019, they founded the Play False Associação Cultural, with the objective of being the representative structure of the authorial work of these two choreographers, as well as promoting multidisciplinary projects that encourage the intersection of artistic languages.
They are attending the Master in Choreographic Creation and Professional Practices at Escola Superior de Dança, IPL.
