3rd Coriolis Meeting
Regenerate the present, reinvent the future

We are living in a critical moment where climate and social challenges urge us to deeply rethink our practices and the impact of our actions. How can we, as cultural agents, contribute to the regeneration of society and territories? How can we go beyond sustainability and move towards true and transformative regeneration?

The 3rd Coriolis Meeting is an invitation to action and collective reflection. Through hands-on workshops, inspiring talks, and dynamic discussion panels, we will explore regenerative practices that foster the resilience of territories and communities. We will also discuss the potential of artificial intelligence as a tool for innovation in the cultural sector, as well as the relevance of collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches in creating more inclusive organizational models adapted to the needs of the present and future.

Can the arts contribute to a paradigm shift in addressing climate change?

Online conference with Ben Twist and Daniel Christian Wahl, moderated by Mónica Guerreiro [English]

In this conference, Ben Twist, director of Culture for Climate Scotland, and Daniel Christian Wahl, author of Designing Regenerative Cultures, will discuss how the arts can drive fundamental change in our response to climate change.

This session will inspire reflection and debate on the role of the arts in shifting mindsets, fostering collective imagination, and strengthening our connection to place. How can cultural institutions, artists, and creative professionals contribute to the urgent transformation needed? How can the bioregion concept—aligning social and economic systems with local ecosystems—shape artistic and cultural practices? What role does creative expression play in reshaping our relationship with the planet?

16:30 – 17:00

Coffee break

17:00 – 18:30

Roundtables

Redefining value: reusing materials in artistic practices

With NADA NOVO and Teatro do Bolhão

A selection of stage objects will serve as a starting point to discuss the values that drive us—economic, cultural, emotional, environmental, and social justice values—and how we must rethink them to tackle the (un)sustainability of materiality in artistic practices.

What new principles should guide material selection? What new strategies for design?

“No one yet knows what shows will look like, made in the reality of the climate emergency.”

Regeneration through use: the role of art and culture

With Marta Cortegano – Terra Sintrópica

The concept of regeneration through use, promoted by Terra Sintrópica, proposes that all our actions can have a positive, regenerative impact by working in harmony with nature.

Faced with global challenges such as climate change, digitalization, and the rise of populism, this roundtable invites reflection on the role of art and culture in social transformation. How can artivism go beyond raising awareness and become a tool for collective action, regenerating both ecosystems and social and economic relationships?

Artificial Intelligence and the Arts: Transformations and Challenges in Cultural Production

With Filipe Portela

The potential of Artificial Intelligence in various aspects of cultural and artistic work will be explored in this conversation with Filipe Portela, a researcher at University of Minho. This session will introduce tools and strategies to harness AI’s creativity in work processes, fostering innovative practices. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and propose concrete challenges, encouraging a rich and interactive discussion.

From sustainability to regeneration: Is collaboration a key strategy for the survival of cultural structures?

With Carlota Quintão and Joana Marques – Coletivo A3S

Joana Marques and Carlota Quintão bring experience in advocacy for social and solidarity economy values, as well as in action-research, consultancy, and external evaluation of cultural sector associations.

Inspired by the theme of this gathering, we invite participants to revisit the language and concepts of contemporary narratives and collectively question:

How can small cultural organizations survive and act as catalysts for desirable, feasible, utopian, or dystopian futures? What needs regeneration? Why does it matter? Is collaboration a key strategy? What does collaboration mean, and how does it take shape in practice?

18:30 – 19:10

Roundtable presentations

19:10 – 19:30

Closing remarks

Feb 19 / 9:30 AM – 7:30 PM / Central Elétrica, Porto

With free admission upon mandatory prior registration, this gathering will be a space for sharing, practice, and debate. We will bring together artists, researchers, cultural managers, producers, and audiences, fostering a conscious and participatory vision for the future.
