What is the Brave Creative Producers Project?
Brave Creative Producers is a Creative Europe project that brings together Emanat (Slovenia), Instável (Portugal), and Kulturanova (Serbia).
The project offers a Capacity Building Programme for 6 emerging creative producers – two in each country – including an Online Production Course, workshops, mentoring, and practical work within artistic productions. The programme aims to provide emerging creative producers with tools to critically reflect on production models, sustainable approaches, and new forms of collaboration in contemporary performing arts.
Who are the 3 partners?
Instável
Instável – Choreographic Centre is a Portuguese contemporary dance organisation based in Porto, founded in 1999 as Companhia Instável. Its main activities include new artistic creations (with invited choreographers and casts selected through audition), training courses and support programmes for emerging choreographers, artistic residencies, and mentoring.
Emanat – Institute for the Affirmation and Development of Dance and Contemporary Art was founded in 2006 in Ljubljana and operates in three core areas: production (performing arts, music, intermedia arts), education (performing arts and music), and publishing (non-fiction, theatre, and music).
The Association Kulturanova was unofficially founded in 1999 and officially registered in Novi Sad in 2001. Kulturanova works across four areas through its programmes: Teatarnova – theatre and performance, Muzikanova – support for young music creators, Medianova – audiovisual and media content, and Futuranova – innovation in cultural and creative industries.
What is the programme about?
Each partner will select 2 emerging producers to take part in a Capacity Building Programme consisting of:
Online Production Course: Led by researcher and practitioner Vânia Rodrigues, the online production course aims to foster critical thinking within the profession of creative production. Sessions will include reading and writing assignments, reflection and feedback sessions, notation assignments, and research presentations.
Case Studies: The selected producers will join artistic, technical, and production teams at Instável in the development of production and post-production activities.
Workshops: During the project, the emerging producers will participate in 3 workshops organised by the project partners.
Hands-on Experience: The emerging producers will take part in a Practical Production Work Programme at Instável, contributing actively to production processes and learning through direct involvement in different tasks and contexts.
Notations for the Online Platform: The BCP project will culminate in an online platform – Producer’s Inventory – an open-source inventory of production practices. The 2 emerging producers will be invited to document and reflect on the production processes they take part in, developing observational and research skills fundamental to critically thinking about the role of a producer.
The 2 emerging producers will have a local mentor – a senior member of Instável’s team – guiding them throughout the project.
