“It was only a dream.” Normality quickly returns, and sanity is no longer at risk. You just need to turn over and snuggle back into your soft and fragrant conceptions. How many layers does a dream have? Where does one person’s dream end and another’s begin? Where is the boundary between the real and the surreal?

Why ask these questions? The alarm in the morning faithfully reminds me to forget. But I don’t always forget. And the only way out is to repeat: “It was only a dream.”

It’s never just a dream.

Leonardo Calvino (pseudonym of Iuri Martins), mostly self-taught, he has had a multidisciplinary journey, exploring martial arts, music, comic book scripting, circus, and magic, before dedicating himself to dance as a research territory. As a creator, his first works are Inercia, a contemporary dance and circus piece that premiered in 2021, and his latest creation Apneia, co-created with Joana Couto, which premiered in 2022 as part of the Palcos Instáveis cycle at Teatro Municipal do Porto. Since 2019, he has also worked in dramaturgy, lighting design, and creative accompaniment, with notable contributions to If only this was about food and Sinto Muito, both by Joana Couto.

Joana Couto began her journey with 15 years of training at Ginasiano Escola de Dança, later joining the Dancer/Maker program at ArtEZ University of Arts. She started working as a freelancer with Kale Companhia de Dança and Companhia Instável. Her career highlights include working with Hélder Seabra, Roberto Olivan, and Christine Hassid, among others. As a choreographer, she created If only this was about food, presented at TMP in 2020, and Sinto Muito, which premiered in 2021 and featured a creative process archive book. In 2022, she collaborated with Leonardo Calvino on Apneia. She also co-created the Súbito Festival and the Órbita Program, a multidisciplinary platform for sharing and programming, alongside Beatriz Sarmento.
